Burgers are the best.
I don’t eat red meat though. Whenever I get a craving for burgers, I normally make my black bean burgers; however, for whatever reason, my family won’t even bother trying them. My family cant stand the thought of having a meal with no meat.
So turkey burgers are my healthy solution to my dilemma. My whole family liked them (even my brother who would eat steak for every meal if he could)! And I really prefer these turkey burgers to any beef burger I’ve ever had!
Turkey is a really great protein source (it actually has a little bit more than ground beef) and is also lower in saturated fat (the bad fat) than beef.
I really like my turkey burgers on whole wheat buns with pepper jack cheese, lettuce, and caramelized onions so that’s what I included in the recipe, but of course you can top off your burger with whatever you like!
Best Ever Turkey Burgers
serves 6
2 pounds of ground turkey
1 tablespoon chopped parsely
1 egg white
2 tablespoons of italian bread crumbs
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
pepper to taste
1 sweet onion, sliced
1 tablespoon olive oil
6 slices of pepper-jack cheese
lettuce
6 whole wheat hamburger buns (I actually prefer whole-wheat sandwich thins)
1. In a sauce pan, heat the olive oil over medium-low heat and add in the onions and some pepper to taste. Cover and let cook for about 20 minutes until carmelized.
2. Mix the turkey, parsley, egg white, bread crumbs, worcestershire sauce, and pepper together by hand making sure that everything is well incorperated. Then form into 6 patties and set aside.
3. Spray a skillet with non-stick cooking spray and heat over medium heat. Once hot, add the burgers working with about 3 per batch and cooking for about 5 minutes on each side or until there is no pink in the patty.
4. Remove from heat and put in a bun and top with pepper jack, carmelized onions, lettuce, or whatever your heart desires!
